Production and research work has been handled by Memoria & Progetto, a cultural association that selected all the documents, photographs, graphic materials and objects on display under the coordination of Elena Puccinelli. The research was born from the Rinascente Archives portal where the archive of the company has been digitally rebuilt through the research, selections, reproduction and enhancement of images and documents related to the company’s history, conserved in local and national archives and libraries.
OMA/AMO’s exhibition design has been conceived as a living archive that invites visitors to discover all its wonderful content through a series of different visual, physical and multi-media experiences, displayed in eleven rooms. Room by room, it explains how La Rinascente has managed to offer the public at large a different perception of art, culture and design, focusing its business around research and innovation through the complex story of the twentieth-century. It is not a linear journey, but a collage of different contributions, identities, people and stimuli that, copying an emporium-style layout, tells how La Rinascente became the quintessential player on the European department store panorama.
