With this range of tableware, Lasvit wanted to extend the collection launched last year – with the Sfera hanging light, the Ring hanging light and the Lollipop table-lamp.

“When we visited the Lasvit factory in the Czech Republic – describes Humberto Campana – seeing the coloured glass in its liquid form made me think of the transparent, coloured sweets that were sold on the markets in Brazil when I was a child. So I tried to bring into the collection this fond memory that has its roots in Brazilian culture, rich in colour. We tried to bring this energy into the objects, solidifying popular culture into a glass object.”
Glass isn’t an easy material to work with and poses a number of design limitations. The approach taken by the Campana brothers respected its DNA. “When we were involved in this design, we knew we didn’t want to attack the glass but to leave it to speak for itself, without imposing rigid forms, with the randomness that is created when overlaying coloured glass with transparent glass. Our work is based on creating a tension between materials to create a third material. We intervened in the glass-blowing process without controlling it, leaving the material to run freely, like water”.
From a technical point of view it is a phase of the process that occurs when the material is in a liquid state and involves overlaying a glass object that has no colour with a coloured glass material in liquid state that when solidified reveals its consistency. This process brings out the power of the colour that generates, with the combination of strong colours – such as an intense light blue – and lighter ones – the yellow – an effect of depth in the glass.
