With the Alfi collection (chair and stools) designed by Jasper Morrison Emeco continues to explore the use of discarded and recycled materials by turning them into products with a long life cycle.

“We started on this project about two years ago; they explained the Emeco philosophy and approach to me and I think it’s fantastic, and their amazing enthusiasm about recycling and the use of materials which would otherwise be waste.” explains the British designer. “I liked the material, it’s the same they used for the Philippe Starck chair last year. I decided to combine it with wood to give it extra richness.”

The chairs are 100% produced from industrial waste – 92.5% polypropylene and 7.5% wood fibre. The structure is made from ash-wood sourced locally, responsibly harvested and worked by local Amish craftsmen.

“I like the screws underneath, I think they are direct. If you need to change a broken piece of the chair, you can do it yourself. I believe that industrial products are sometimes too mysterious. It is also easier to recycle if you can separate the materials”, continues Morrison. “Alfi was inspired by the Parisian brasserie chairs with a flat, woven seats and rounded backs. It is one of the most comfortable chairs I have ever designed.”
