Molteni presents in its showroom an ideal manifesto of the great architect’s oeuvre and reissues two of his chairs for the occasion, on view during Milan Design Week 2014.
“To sit comfortably with your legs crossed, you need not much seat and lots of back: at this angle”, says Gio Ponti in his introduction in 1970 to the new wide chair, remade this year by Molteni&C, together with the “narrow folding seat”, to continue its rediscovery of that indefatigable innovator.
In collaboration with Gio Ponti Archives, the remade chair is presented here in the high and low versions, in natural or black ashwood, with back and seat in fabric, leather and pith. Light but solid, it is comfortable and accessibly priced. This all-purpose folding chair is the ideal emblem of that Manifesto of the Casa Adatta of 1970 which exemplified a “new way of thinking of the home”. And it is as new as ever today.
