On the occasion of Maison & Objet 2013, French design manufacturer Petite Friture will present Market, a new chair created by Paris-based designer Noé Duchaufour Lawrance.
Duchaufour Lawrance has created a wooden chair with a solid oak frame, where a delicate oak and cork screen rests, creating a sturdy sitting surface. The screen can be removed and rolled up, allowing for the chair frames to be stacked easily.
The designer points out he was inspired by one of the rare places that links all the social layers of a city or village: the market. The chair is inspired by the structures and wood slats that form the market stalls — temporary structures that can be stored away quickly.
"The market is the only place to directly bring together producers and consumers and continues to survive despite the movements of today's society," says Duchaufour Lawrance. "Its existence constantly reminds us of our need for communication, encounters, exchanges and simplicity."
