Zurich-based architecture studio Conceptual Devices, headed by Antonio Scarponi, has recently completed the Trampolines Suite Hotel in Riccione, in the Italian Riviera Romagnola. Located next to the sea, the volume sets itself apart from the many Riviera hotels due to its façade, a "technological surface" composed of DuPont Corian. This is the largest external façade composed solely of the material, which, according to the architect, lends itself to "evoke the shape of cruise ships."
Inspired by the vessels designed and built in Riccione, the new hotel seeks to create connections with the naval architecture of the region. The renovation project of the hotel — which was originally built in the 1960s — was aesthetic and functional, modernizing the services of the historic building.
The new spacial organisation of the hotel proposes a restaurant and bar facing the sea, with direct access from the pedestrian area outside. "The eighteen suites," states Scarponi, "all face the sea, with ample terraces seeking to recreate the deck of a ship."
