The Singaporean architecture studio Ministry of Design (MOD) has recently completed the Vanke Triple V Gallery in Tianjin, China. The building serves as a permanent show gallery and a tourist information centre for China's largest developed Vanke. Located along the Dong Jiang Bay coastline, the gallery responds to the coastal setting with its corten steel skin; the interiors are wood-paneled.
"Despite its obvious sculptural qualities, the building's DNA evolved rationally from a careful
analysis of key contextual and programmatic perimeters," say MOD. "This defines the
triangulated floor plan as well as the three soaring edges that have come to define its form."
"The client's program called for three main spaces: a tourist information center, a show gallery, and a
lounge for discussion. Requiring their own entrances, the tourist center and the show gallery are orientated to
separate existing pedestrian pathways and can be operated independently.
As an extension of the show gallery, there is a lounge area where discussions are conducted. This
space takes advantage of the panoramic views of the coastline and comprises a sculptural
bar counter."
