The 6
th
edition of Lausanne’s comic books festival BD-FIL
proudly presents “Zep” as its
guest of honor. Joining forces for the occasion, the
Festival and mudac are staging a
major show of this Genevan comic book artist’s
work, in a display taking up mudac’s
almost entire exhibition space. Under the heading
Portrait Dessiné (Sketched Portrait),
Zep addresses the topics of special interest to him:
children and their queries, the
influence of other cartoonists on his own work,
music, city life and nature, utopia,
humanitarian causes, teamwork with other
draftsmen or scriptwriters, and sex.
The originals on display in great number promise to
provide special insights into this
draftsman’s oeuvre. Above and beyond showcasing
“Titeuf” and his chums, the exhibition
also features original plates from other comic strip
albums—notably, Happy Sex, Les
Filles électriques, (reprinted under the title Happy
Girls in spring 2010) and L’Enfer des
concerts (forthcoming as Happy Rock in September
2010), Découpé en tranches.... On
view additionally are several less well-known
drawings, together with sketchpad
excerpts, and illustrations commissioned for
various specific events.
Each of the gallery rooms treats viewers to a short
animated film on the relevant themes.
Large-scale format prints and a highly original
scenography add the final touches to this,
the first one-man show devoted to the work of Zep
in a Swiss museum.
