Located in Dali, Yunnan Province, the Munwood Lakeside Hotel presents an ecological strategy in environmental protection and provides a new way to define the role of contemporary architects.
The designers that is recognized and admired by people today can never be show-offs or those who blindly pursue for unconventional qualities. Good architects always attempt to integrate the building with its own site, and show respect to its natural and original surroundings. To provide more convincing examples and further discussions, this issue covers the residential development of One Kensington Gardens in London under the guide of David Chipperfield, which reaffirms the great ability of the architect to respond to a highly distinctive historic fabric. The residential building in Lugano, Switzerland designed by SPBR Arquitetos and Baserga & Mozzetti Architetti also excels in its connection to the land, by linking levels, liberating spaces and adding functions in a genuine promenade architecture.
Also featured is the project conducted by Baukunst in the countryside of Belgium, in which the architects insert a new Polyvalent Infrastructure, with a powerful and rigorous metal roof protecting an inner courtyard. Similarly, as a renewing and expanding project, the Combatentes Education Centre in Ovar, Portugal masterly responds to the particularities of its site.
Fantastic global extras are also covered in this issue, and we especially introduce the redesigned collection exhibited in MASP, thanks to which we once again have an opportunity to enjoy the masterpiece conceived by Lina Bo Bardi and her husband.
