The Fabbrica del Vapore, with its huge courtyard and the thousands of square meters of space reclaimed from warehouses, roofs, and passages that unexpectedly reveal monumental spaces, goes beyond being a generic venue; it can be defined as an entire urban quadrant. This expansive nature can sometimes boomerang, posing challenges for visitors navigating the numerous exhibitions in the emerging Sarpi district, which is still in the process of defining itself. Despite the difficulty in locating them, these exhibitions offer some of the most intriguing research proposals of this Design Week. Arelevant archive such as Casva, the Milan-based Centro di alti studi sulle arti visive (Centre for Advanced Studies of Visual Arts) presents a truly monumental showcase of iconic materials from Italian design history – Amneris Latis, Gregotti, Mari, De Pas, D’Urbino, Lomazzi. Meanwhile, the explorations by Politecnico di Milano’s School of Design and the New European Bauhaus delve into the full spectrum of material possibilities and their intersection with technology. And as always, Lorenzo Damiani’s four stories dedicated to stone also explore materials – yes, we’re talking the flexibility of marble.
