The panel discussion at domusforum 2019, entitled Milano global city: institutions, finance and business towards a new urban paradigm, is moderated by Domus editorial director Walter Mariotti. Among the speakers, Corrado Passera, CEO illimity, Marco Tronchetti Provera, executive vice president and CEO Pirelli, Giovanni Fosti, president of Fondazione Cariplo, Umberto Ambrosoli, president of Banca Aletti – Gruppo Banco BPM.
The discussion starts with the concept of a new humanism. Marco Tronchetti Provera believes that culture and technology must coexist: “The cultural root is fundamental. In technological development we must invest in the union of culture and technology. One of the great potential tragedies of this century is the inability to put people at the centre. Instead of educating people about technologies, we are imposing technologies on people. It is the duty of business to make culture. Companies will develop and wealth will be created only if society grows with them”.
Another topic is attractiveness and the energy a city needs to be defined attractive. Corrado Passera, in this regard, speaks about those cities capable of attracting talent and innovation, and therefore prosperity, through innovative energy. “Creating the potential of growth also involves the ability to attract talent and start-ups” he explains. “The cities that succeed in attracting talent and developing new business initiatives are those that decide to devote themselves with structures dedicated to this type of business”.
