A green space has been added to the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein: the 2020 project by Dutch designer Piet Oudolf, a 4,000 square metre garden, is located between the VitraHaus and Álvaro Siza’s production plant. An intervention that enhances the outdoors of the German headquarters and imagines a new scenario in continuous evolution. Oudolf, considered the pioneer of a generation of garden designers for his non-conformist use of plants, has received commissions for Hauser & Wirth Somerset, the Serpentine Galleries and the Venice Biennale. In this project, as in his others, the impression of a wild landscape prevails, but everything is actually carefully planned: the designer seeks a balance between the various species, combining plants with different flowering periods to offer a defined sensorial experience in each season. For the Oudolf Garden, 30,000 plants were used, including perennials, shrubs, herbs, bushes and wild flowers. The garden is intended to draw attention to greenery and its winding, curving paths, designed to be not only walked through but also experienced emotionally.
