In the gardens of Oporto a loop reflects on circularity and repetition

FAHR 021.3 designs a circular monument for the UPTEC and it is the first real meeting point of the scientific center of Oporto.

Can a circular concrete bench stand as a symbol of an experience never equal to itself? This is the case of LOOP, the structure designed by the Portuguese FAHR studio to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the creation of the Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto, (UPTEC).

This monument / urban furniture has been conceived to act as a meeting point in the Asprela district, which presents a great concentration of health and educational facilities and generates a daily flow of passersby that rarely stop in the area due to the absence of points of interest in the public space.

The concrete severity is tempered by an organic texture and the curves of the circle always appears different depending on the perspective. A cycle exists, but it doesn’t repeat itself.
