The international design fair Design Miami/ recently announced the appointment of Maria Cristina Didero as the event’s new Curatorial Director. A contributor to Domus, Didero is a curator of international renown, already in charge of numerous exhibitions and collaborating with many institutions worldwide with important companies, from Nendo to Objects of Common Interest, and many others.
For Design Miami/ in addition to curating the fair’s flagship events in Basel and Miami, Didero will also lead the fair’s debut in Paris in October 2022.
“I am thrilled to join the DesignMiami/ team and embrace this new adventure at such an important historical moment, a moment of important restart. There is no doubt that the last 24 months of human history will be remembered in all their drama – the effort needed will be to continue the experiments (technological and otherwise) that we all activated during the pandemic; it is often said that the most intense creative adventures and small and large cultural revolutions are born from moments of crisis. Design rarely fails in this respect.”
The Golden Age is a title that I hope will serve as inspiration for designers, galleries and companies to open up to hope and the ambition to rebuild the world in a more open, more sustainable, more inclusive way
“For this year, and for the three editions in Basel, Paris, and Miami, I thought of a theme that could embrace the different histories and geographies that operate in the world of design, and that could almost be an invitation, an exhortation, certainly an optimistic attitude: The Golden Age is a title that I hope will serve as inspiration for designers, galleries and companies to open up to hope and the ambition to rebuild the world in a more open, more sustainable, more inclusive way. A healthy process capable of creating positivity and well-being. Who knows, maybe after the pandemic, we might enter a new golden age.”
