3daysofdesign: a spotlight on Scandinavian design (and more)

23 to 25 May will see the opening of Denmark’s annual design event in Copenhagen, presenting a selection of works by a range of creative talents: designers, artisans, architects and manufacturers.

Now at its eighth edition and directed by the talented Signe Byrdal Terenziani, this year 3daysofdesign is presenting more than 150 exhibitors.

A three-day event during which showrooms, creative firms, brand-new spaces and manufacturers present their new products within the setting of the city of Copenhagen. But that is not all. The design event in the Danish capital is a veritable voyage of discovery, uncovering the methods, ideals and artisan traditions of this country.

The various events take place throughout the city (and its suburbs), in historical buildings or new spaces opened specially for the occasion, thus presenting an opportunity to discover never-before-seen corners of the city.

The key to the success of these three days of design is the possibility to go beyond the product, being able to directly meet every person involved, providing an in-depth understanding of what really lies behind every single creation.

The graphic identity this year is the work of the Spanish artist/designer Jaime Hayon, with his characteristic style that brings together art, decoration and design. As well as the opportunities to directly meet the main players and manufacturers from the world of design, there will also be various exhibitions spread throughout Copenhagen, including one at the Italian embassy, which will be opening its doors for the occasion.

Here, six companies (Villa Home Collection, D3CO, AVBM, Giordano Viganò, Milleforma, Teckell) will be exhibiting, bringing together Italian artisan production with the evolution in contemporary design and technology, creating products with recovered materials and with wood from forests cultivated in a responsible manner which satisfy the environmental, social and economic standards of FSC®. With a view to the concept of the circular economy, this group of companies takes on the problem of the sustainable use of materials, which is closely tied to the question of energy and climate change.

One recommendation during the design event is a visit to the Designmuseum Denmark, where visitors can see the exhibition “Bauhaus #Itsalldesign”, and to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, one of the most important international museums dedicated to modern and contemporary art.

The recommended form of transport during the Scandinavian design event is the bicycle, the ideal way to move around the capital, offering the possibility to enjoy every single stage.

There is also a bus and boat service organised by 3daysofdesign to reach all of the exhibitors who are taking part in the event (although it is necessary to buy tickets in advance from the event website).
