Arches and low lighting create moody atmosphere at Singapore bistro

Work of Substance takes cues from luxury travel for this restaurant, which echoes the bustling atmosphere of a train station from a bygone era.

A bit like in the film “Lost in Translation”, the design firm Work of Substance wanted to recreate the feeling of exchange and speed of the train station, in which millions of lives cross paths.  The bar and restaurant is in keeping with the aesthetics of its situation in Singapore's luxury Shangri-La hotel, which has the typical characteristics of Southern-east Asian high-end design. 

Dark blue walls, warm wood, parquet floors and metal light fixtures evoke the opulence of high-class travel. The idea of imitating a train station originated from the pre-existing arches in the space, which in turn take their form from the vaulted roof of the building. The customers are travelers who have at their disposal a bar area, restaurant and private dining rooms. In these renovated spaces an ideal voyage is reproduced, with all the elements: the ticket office, the big hall, the tracks, and finally the trains.
