Presented at Art Athina Fair 2018, Formations is the latest design project by Greek duo leni Petaloti and Leonidas Trampoukis, founders of Brooklyn-based studio Objects of common interest. Various unique curvy-shaped elements form an ambiguous seating arrangement in the form of scattered freestanding objects, each in its very own balancing expression. The pieces are connected with the rest by creating common space through their individuality. “We are creating independent objects that, when brought together in a certain context and next to each other, become an installation,” the designers explain.
Formation is made of 12 unique pieces in gloss powdercoated steel of a vivid deep blue color. Each object alone is a piece by itself: together they are meant to create clusters, stand alone or form infinite forms. They are all crafted in local shops in Greece, small craft workshops, metal and paint that have been working with the designers for many other projects. “Like other installations we have created, such as object ones for “Spectacle” at Design Miami, or spatial ones such as Skyline installed at Flatiron Plaza in New York, we label these works as interactive installations for being able to stand alone; but they are meant to be touched, sit on, experienced tangibly, thus acquiring another level of interaction other than the purely visual.”
