2022 will mark the 60th birthday of Diabolik, the “King of terror”, created by the Giussani sisters in 1962. The National Museum of Cinema in Turin anticipates the celebrations to 2021, to coincide with the release of the movie Diabolik directed by Manetti Bros. Produced by Mompracem with Rai Cinema and distributed in cinemas by 01 Distribution, the movie boasts an exceptional cast, including Luca Marinelli, Miriam Leone and Valerio Mastandrea.

The exhibition “Diabolik at the Mole”, curated by Luca Beatrice (art critic), Domenico De Gaetano (director of the National Museum of Cinema) and Luigi Mascheroni (journalist for Il Giornale), will open on 16 December 2021 and will be on display until 14 February 2022.

The National Automobile Museum of Turin will also join the celebrations, presenting a dedicated exhibition to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Jaguar E-Type, Diabolik’s famous car.

The project represents the best occasion to visit the new exhibition space of the National Museum of Cinema, which will occupy the reception floor.

Cinema is obviously the star: the exhibition displays photos, comics, original drawings and props directly from the set, as well as unedited material from the version directed by Mario Bava in 1968 and the version never realised in 1965 by Seth Holt, starring French actor Jean Sorel. It also features rarities from the archives of the Astorina publishing house and from private collectors, as well as images from Intesa Sanpaolo’s Publifoto Archive.

The display is inspired by Eva Kant’s passion for design and art, culminating in Diabolik’s attempt to steal a painting for her, an unequivocal sign of love and devotion.

Furthermore, the CineVR rooms of the National Museum of Cinema will host the world premiere of Diabolik VR Experience, an immersive content created by director Omar Rashid on the set of the movie by Manetti Bros.

The exhibition is preceded by a videomapping show dedicated to Diabolik and produced in collaboration with Rai Cinema. The show will animate the Mole Antonelliana from the end of November to 16 December 2021. Silvana Editoriale will also publish a dedicated catalogue containing texts by the curators and contributions by Mariella Mengozzi, director of MAUTO, Mario Gomboli, editorial director of Astorina, Gianni Bono, journalist and Italian comics historian.
