When, in 2005, the German car manufacturer
asked Eliasson to design an
“art car”, the artist took the opportunity
to go beyond the simple work of art and
came up with the BMW H2R, a hydrogen-
powered racing car that combines
record speed with maximum sustainability.
With the installation Your mobile
expectations: BMW H2R project at the
Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich (from
May 28 to July 20), Eliasson presents
the prototype of this four-wheeled gem
to the public. But by substituting the
outer cladding with two sheets of metal
and a fragile layer of ice, he also transforms
it into a broader refl ection on the
effects of mobility on the environment. E.S.
