Raymond Pettibon works include drawings, writing and art books. In the past 25 years, he has created thousands of drawings which have been published on paper but which also are shown in the various galleries which host his works. Pettibon communicates in a new language, somewhere between drawing and cartoons, literary citation and pop art , where the relationship between text and image is an essential ingredient.

This Californian artist gets his inspiration from music, politics, religion, history of art, sports and cinema. The Pettibon exhibition at the Whitney is a broad-ranging one which also includes a new animation work commissioned by the museum. E.S.
