Giuseppe Tortato Architetti completed the Arcadia Center in the Gallaratese district of Milan together with F&M and Tekser engineering. The integrated design team renovated the building from the 1970s, consisting of two connected buildings spread over an area of 23,000 square meters.
Reserved for the headquarters of Volkswagen Leasing and Volkswagen Bank, the low environmental impact project has obtained Leed Silver certification: in terms of psychophysical wellbeing and sustainability, numerous green areas have been added, from the roof garden on the top floor to the gardens accessible from the inside thanks to circular windows.
The load-bearing structure has been maintained, while the facades – with soft, white volumes on the street side and sharp, anthracite-coloured volumes on the other sides – have been redesigned for better energy performance. Arcadia Center includes two basement floors for warehouses and technical rooms, a mezzanine floor that houses reception and common areas, five floors above ground for offices.
