Ready-made home is located in an elegant rationalist building designed by architect Hilario Imaz in the 60s. With a particular semicircular layout, the building opens onto a square with wide windows.
The spatial entity of the apartment suggests the designers a free and playful interpretation of the domestic question, moving away from an idea of succession of specialized spaces and breaking away from classic standards of hierarchies and distribution between living and sleeping areas, common and private spaces, served and servant.
Architecture is thus reduced to a measured and careful arrangement of devices, materials and objects. Light partitions, soft curtains, and domestic infrastructures such as the bookcase in the entrance, mark thresholds and rooms, generating a continuous and fluid space without constraints, while a mix of raw, antique and contemporary materials and colourful objects, deregulated and unpredictable, often distant from their original attributes and functions, suggest an open and liberating lifestyle.
The free and unpredictable personality of an apartment in Bilbao
The renovated apartment from Azab is a continuous space without hierarchies, made of unpredictable materials and decontextualized objects. The narrative thread is humour and uniqueness.
