LUO studio designed the temporary Shengli Market, in Puyang City, China, a metal and glass structure looking like an industrialized vegetable shed. The original market, located in an old urban area, was no longer accessible due to its conditions and needed to be renewed or rebuilt. During the reconstruction period this new temporary market has been placed on the opposite side of the old one, in an unused plot of land: the new temporary building includes a parking area that separates the market from the main road and traffic. Paying attention to sustainability, the Chinese architectural firm built the structure with standardized components – lightweight, modular and prefabricated – that guarantee a fast costruction phase and can be dismantled and recycled for other purposes. Shengli Market is organized on 2,902 sqm and has a central open area with shelves – of two meters in length – where inverted pyramids are placed on structural columns, providing informations and helping orientation inside the market.   A series of connected shops run around this space: enclosed boxes selling dried food, cooked food and seasonings face the central part of the market. Timber has been used for shelves, shops, pyramid structures and for the canopy at the entrance, making the space visually warmer and helping at orientation.
