Taichung Gateway Park City

Recent urban expansion in Taichung, Taiwan, has interrupted the city’s relationship with its canal network.

The realisation of this largescale urban project by the practice Stan Allen Architect, winner of the American Progressive Architecture Award, is based on the idea of restoring the landscape by using the water and its surroundings. The project occupies the 250- hectare site of the former airport and involves the creation of a new urban district dedicated to culture. The curved Parkway divides the site into three areas with distinct identities that house various public buildings, softening the connection with the local access roads. At the far south of the site a 300-metre-high tower will offer a panoramic venue open to visitors. The budget for the first phase is 95 million dollars. Silvia Monaco
