St. Louis: Pulitzer Foundation for the Art di Tadao Ando

Inaugurated in St. Louis, Missouri, the new headquarters of the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, conceived of and designed by Tadao Ando on the commission of Joseph Pulitzer Jr.

This is the very first work realised in the United States by the Japanese architect. Here Ando has built, in three storeys with an area of 2,500 square metres, quiet and contemplative interiors, a project consisting of two concrete boxes separated by a reflecting pool, destined to house important works by modern and contemporary artists (from Claude Monet to Mark Rothko).

Outside, a great park designed in partnership with Richard Serra who has planned a striking, ad hoc environmental installation. “I wanted to create the most beautiful safe possible, to protect these most magnificent works of art”, says Tadao Ando.
