Montreux, Lausanne, and Geneva are three jewels of French-speaking Switzerland, each with a strong cultural identity and unique attractions. Thanks to direct Eurocity train connections from Italy—linking cities like Milan, Genoa, Bologna, and Venice—these destinations are easy to reach. Once there, efficient public transport and complimentary travel cards for overnight guests make cars unnecessary. A journey through Montreux, Lausanne, and Geneva promises a memorable experience of culture, science, and holiday enchantment.

Lausanne is a Swiss gem boasting landmarks like the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the medieval Cité district, the port area of Ouchy, flea markets, the arts district, and breathtaking panoramic views. Nestled between Lake Geneva and terraced vineyards, the city is also home to the Olympic Museum, a celebration of the Games that combines history, technology, and spectacle. Renovated in 2013, the museum hosts both temporary exhibitions — such as the current “Fashion and Sport,” which explores sportswear from the 19th century to today — and permanent displays across three levels. These exhibits are dedicated to the Olympics, athletes, and their spirit, featuring interactive spaces for younger visitors. Outside, the museum connects to the Ouchy lakeside park, where art installations blend with sports areas.

Known as the European headquarters of the United Nations and the "Capital of Peace," Geneva is home to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum. This institution, inspired by the humanitarian vision of Henry Dunant, was also revamped in 2013. It offers a reflective journey through three key themes, each designed by a different architect: Defending Human Dignity, by Gringo Cardia; Restoring Family Links, by Diébédo Francis Kéré; Reducing Natural Risks, by Shigeru Ban. The museum combines historical archives, interactive testimonies, and art exhibits to illustrate the global impact of the Red Cross.

Just a short distance from Geneva, CERN welcomes visitors to explore scientific innovation at the new Science Gateway, designed by architect Renzo Piano. This facility, inaugurated in October 2023, features two suspended tunnels symbolizing the particle accelerator (Large Hadron Collider) located in the underground laboratories. Open to visitors of all ages, it offers an immersive dive into the world of science. The architectural complex also highlights sustainability, with 2,000 square meters of solar panels and a surrounding forest of 400 trees.

Few know that Montreux has hosted many legendary artists, from Freddie Mercury—who featured Lake Geneva and the Grammont peaks on the cover of Made in Heaven—to Prince, who named a song “Lavaux” after the region’s UNESCO-listed terraced vineyards a few kilometers from Montreux. One artist in particular inspired a dedicated museum: Chaplin’s World. 
Located in the historic estate where Charlie Chaplin spent his later years, in Corsier-sur-Vevey, this museum combines theatrical displays and authentic objects to bring the silent film genius to life. Visitors can explore both his private villa and a large interactive studio celebrating his cinematic masterpieces.

Beyond the cultural offerings of these three Swiss cities, the holiday season brings magical Christmas markets. Lausanne comes alive with Bô Noël, a market connecting the medieval heart of the city to Plateforme 10, the newly developed cultural district. With stalls, a Ferris wheel, and a sledding track, the city transforms into an enchanting village. 
Geneva sparkles during Advent with the Noël au Quai market along Quai du Mont-Blanc. Craft stalls, the aroma of mulled wine, and a grand Ferris wheel create a festive atmosphere by the lake. 
Lastly, Montreux hosts one of Europe’s most charming Christmas markets, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Featuring wooden chalets, handcrafted goods, and breathtaking views of Lake Geneva, it’s a winter wonderland not to be missed.
