Lithic design of the future

At Marmomac, 24-27 September 2024, we will find the exhibition “Ceci n'est pas un fossile”, organised thanks to the creativity of students from several Italian and foreign universities, and with the support of companies in the sector.

Marmomac, the world's most important event dedicated to the entire natural stone supply chain, is much more than a trade fair: it is a platform where business and professional training meet, becoming a privileged place for business, innovation and project culture. The event returns to Veronafiere 24-27 September 2024 to discuss a material culture that is always evolving. This new edition aims to consolidate its role as a platform for all operators in the Italian techno-lapid industry, but not only. With more than 1,500 exhibitors, Marmomac, in fact, confirms itself as a highly international hub, with 66% of visitors attending in 2023 coming from abroad, representing 138 nations. Hall 10 – The Plus Theatre – will again be the centre of experimentation dedicated to natural stone. This year's theme will be matter, the protagonist within a real district that develops around a central avenue made of different types of marble, onto which the exhibitions, meeting area and refreshment areas will face. Here, as part of Marmomac meets Academies, Giuseppe Fallacara curates the exhibition "Ceci n'est pas un fossile", realised thanks to the creativity of students from several Italian and foreign universities and the support of companies in the sector.

The project focuses on the theme of stone design of the future, mainly focussing on the close relationship between knowledge and know-how, theory and practice, craftsmanship and advanced technology. "These concepts will materialise in the realisation of an innovative set-up that stages a hypothetical design 'workshop' of the future where computational design coexists seamlessly with digital fabrication and craftsmanship with all the related technical tools. The shape of this 'workshop' is inspired by the fossil shells contained within the sedimentary stone, which when cut show their characteristic logarithmic spiral shape," explains architect Fallacara. Taking part in Marmomac means being at the heart of creative and technological progress, discovering how natural stone continues to experiment in order to transform its timeless elegance into infinite ways of use.
