Bringing together architecture, engineering, automation, electronics, design: the smart home is an approach that uses technology to enhance safety, improve quality of life and make our environments more comfortable. Integrating technology into architecture is not just an ephemeral layer that is added to our homes, but a method that can also revolutionise the way we think about traditional architectural elements. This is the perspective offered by Instinct, an electronically controlled locking system, produced by Maco, consisting of individual elements that can be installed on doors or frames. The product paves the way for multiple interpretations and creative possibilities and fits in with the home automation revolution. Perfect for home automation and high design solutions, Instinct is a 2022 German Innovation Award and Red Dot Award winner. The secret of Instinct is the Horsehead mechanism: a special patented 'horsehead' hook that moves automatically, quickly and silently, to engage in the clash and close or disengage and open. A system that guarantees high locking pressure, further reinforced in the motorised Guard+ version. Instinct replaces the traditional cylinder lock, making it possible to create narrow profiles and install the system on the frame or on the sash profile, thus freeing the designer's creativity to design boldly shaped doors.
The revolutionary Instinct door locking system
Technological, innovative and invisible, Instinct is the new, fully electronic multi-point locking system from Maco.
In addition to the technical aspect, the innovation of Instinct also concerns a significant change in the mode of use that simultaneously raises the security profile. Opening and closing are controlled via smartphone app, fingerprint, numeric code keypad or smart home system. With the app, access can be managed and monitored, providing the necessary authorisations for those who need to enter and exit.
Instinct is available in the Guard version, which closes mechanically in automatic mode, and Guard+, which provides additional locking pressure. The two locks can be combined in a single door: depending on the size, up to eight locking points can be used for increased burglary resistance, but three are already sufficient to achieve RC 2 resistance class. The positioning of the locking component is free and can be inserted vertically, horizontally or even on inclined sides. The system components communicate with the app via an encrypted bus connection with data stored only locally and can be connected to common alarm and smart home systems. In the event of a black-out or power failure, functionality is guaranteed by an emergency power supply with up to 12 hours autonomy.
