Corian® Design: the commitment to sustainability

In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Corian® Design strives to provide solutions that address climate change, promote the circular economy, provide safer solutions and support community development.

When judging products and projects, we usually give priority to aesthetic, formal and material qualities: immediately perceptible features which, however, do not concern the processes and methods by which the product is made. Talking about sustainability today means instead highlighting the invisible aspects of architecture and design: placing respect for the environment on the same level as aesthetic performance, analysing and revealing the supply and energy sources used, investigating possible circular processes. Corian® Design, the division of DuPont that manufactures and markets Corian® Solid Surface, bases its activities on science and technology. The brand works alongside experts and practitioners towards a sustainable future, helping individuals and communities to thrive in the long term. There are several aspects on which Corian® Design is constantly working in the search for ethical and contemporary solutions. The brand is inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the DuPont Sustainability Goals 2030. Corian® Solid Surface is first and foremost a durable product: it is designed to last a long time and can even be repaired if necessary. It offers important resource-saving possibilities because its long life means that replacement purchases can be saved or avoided. Some colours of Corian® Solid Surface contain 5% to 20% pre-consumer recycled materials/ingredients, as certified by the independent organisation Scientific Certification Systems.

Corian® Design continually updates its manufacturing processes to reduce energy consumption, eliminate or minimise waste and production waste, and optimise packaging. Its production facilities in North America generate no waste for landfill and use 100% electricity from renewable energy sources, and have all achieved ISO 14001 certification for environmental management. Corian® Solid Surface recently obtained the prestigious "Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold" certification in the solid surface category. This certification combines the strictest set of European regulations and performance standards to guarantee a very low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). "By choosing Corian® Solid Surface, you are choosing a product with excellent aesthetic qualities, and you are making a conscious choice that pursues a harmonious relationship between human health and the environment. Corian® Design offers something unique to architects, designers and the furniture industry in general. Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold certification contributes to meeting the highest standards of hygiene, safety and sustainability for residential, commercial and public spaces," said Francisco Gonçalves, Commercial Leader of Corian® Design for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
