The Metamorfosi of marble

On the occasion of the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2022 SAGEVAN® proposes Metamorfosi, a marble composition inspired by the famous Ovid's text and telling the changing dialogue between the essence of the material and the genius of man.

"The inspiration drives me to narrate the mutation of forms into new bodies. Oh gods, if these metamorphoses are yours, inspire my drawing, so that the song from the origins of the world may unfold uninterruptedly until my times," wrote Ovid in his famous Metamorphoses. Ovid's book is the inspiration for some marble creations by SAGEVAN®. The message of the Roman poet is still relevant, as is the use of stone in architecture. Paying homage to the classical text, the Metamorphosis elements tell of the mutable essence of marble, where the design of the hand and the vein intertwine, as in a natural canvas, creating an eternal dialogue between the anthropic sign and that of time.

Made from one of SAGEVAN®'s finest Carrara marbles, Calacatta, the composition features small tables (designed by Natascia Bascherini), tiles, boiserie and ornamental plates for interiors, where the sinuous veins of the marble intertwine engravings representing faces, hands, gazes and symbols, expressions of changes in new bodies. "The Metamorphosis series stems from the desire to build a corpus of signs, figures and icons linked together by the rigid yet unpredictable character of marble. The figures are therefore crossed by the veins in the marble that represent an ancient trace, evidence of their metamorphic origin", says Vincenzo D'Alba of the Kiasmo group who is the author of the drawings that evoke ancient painting techniques and are made through engravings developed in the Carrara art workshops. The graphisms inscribed on marble – particularly on tiles, wainscoting and ornamental plates – are enriched by expertly applied gold leaf. SAGEVAN® is one of the best known Italian brands that selects, processes and markets the famous Carrara marble, the most emblematic and prestigious stone material in the world. Through the supply chain company Gemignani and Vanelli Marmi, SAGEVAN® has the marble from one of the most important quarries in the marble basins of Carrara: the famous Calocara Bettogli quarry no. 102-A, from which the best white, white veined and coloured Carrara marble comes. Since 2004, the SAGEVAN® brand has been composing an independent manufacture in dialogue with numerous professionals also from the world of art and design.
