The Luoghicomuni programme by Fondazione Cariplo promotes the regeneration and shared care of open spaces, thanks to the stipulation of cooperation agreements between the Municipality of Milan and active citizenship.
Lacittàintorno is Fondazione Cariplo's programme for the reactivation and care of unused or marginal spaces in the Municipality of Milan. The initiative encourages the active participation of the inhabitants and the creation of new alliances between the organisations operating in a given neighbourhood: associations, informal groups, schools, citizens, businesses...
Among the project lines included in Lacittàintorno is Luoghicomuni, promoted by Labsus and Italia Nostra Onlus: a series of actions for the regeneration and collective activation of residual open spaces.
For each of the areas identified, a Collaboration Pact is created, i.e. an agreement between the Municipality of Milan and the protagonists of the initiatives. The individual actors assume mutual commitments and responsibilities for the conservation of the property covered by the pact.
The care activities of these spaces are promoted and coordinated thanks to Italia Nostra's know-how in the maintenance of urban green areas. Recent experiences in this field include the "Giardino dei Desideri" pact, a public garden in the Corvetto area, in front of the Fabio Filzi primary school; the Miglio delle Farfalle, a small green oasis in the middle of Corso Lodi, one of the busiest streets in the city; and the Piccola Goccia pact, a green area in Municipio 2, on the Martesana towpath.
Green spaces play a central role in promoting the well-being and aggregation of people living in the same neighbourhood. These actions not only improve urban quality, but also foster a sense of community and social cohesion, enhancing people's involvement and the value of ties. Within the programme, special attention is paid to the participation of children in the care of green spaces. A piccoli Patti is the result of the encounter between the workshop experiences carried out by Spaziopensiero with children and the "Luoghicomuni method".
The objective of Luoghicomuni is very ambitious: to experiment with models of "shared administration of the commons" in the areas of Milan involved in the programme – Adriano, Via Padova, Corvetto and Chiaravalle. This is one of the major issues concerning public space in all global metropolises. The local actions therefore have an international scope and vision and aspire to become a reference for many other cities.
