AGC, Europe's leading manufacturer of flat glass, clad with its products the Libeskind Tower, the last of the three icons of the City Life district in Milan.
The Curved, the Straight and the Crooked – or Hadid Tower, Isozaki Tower and Libeskind Tower – are the nicknames of the triad of new skyscrapers in the City Life district, a project that well represents Milan's innovative soul and its propensity to look upwards. Of the three buildings, the most recent, designed by Polish architect Daniel Libeskind, is undoubtedly the most challenging in terms of construction. Its characteristic curvature in elevation is made possible by a translation of the floors at each level with respect to the barycentre, a central core of reinforced concrete. The Libeskind Tower has an overall height of 175.5 metres (34 floors), and a total surface area of 33,500 square metres.
The material uniting the three vertical constructions is glass. The choice of partner for the construction of the facades was inevitably AGC Flat Glass Italia, the Italian branch of AGC Glass Europe, Europe's leading flat glass manufacturer. Ipasol neutral 50/27 on Clearvision for the outside and Stratobel Clearvision for the inside of the Libeskind Tower, which houses offices and workspaces, were chosen for the glazing. Their combination blends high performance with maximum living comfort.
Ipasol is a wide range of glasses characterised by low light reflection and neutral colours. AGC's range of magnetron cladding meets seemingly irreconcilable requirements: they combine neutral aesthetics with excellent light and energy performance. The Ipasol range of magnetron cladding includes toughened glass products in fixed sizes. This gives architects maximum design and customisation freedom for large and complex structures. Its high selectivity also reduces air conditioning and heating costs, while ensuring the highest level of natural lighting.
A light transmission of 92% and excellent colour rendering are the hallmarks of Planibel Clearvision. AGC's extra-clear float glass guarantees a high level of transparency, ensuring maximum comfort and clear vision: when looking through the glass, colours are more intense and realistic. Its colour rendering is maintained even at high thicknesses (up to 19 mm). In addition, Planibel Clearvision is suitable for all types of processing, making it an extremely versatile and popular product in both the construction and furniture industries.
If the Three Towers of Milan are such an iconic complex and appreciated all over the world, it is also thanks to the many quality solutions, often invisible (or transparent): this is the case of AGC Flat Glass Italia glass.
