Wooden plumage

Moisés Hernández studied the stunning feathers of some tropical birds like the Toucan, the Hummingbird and the Mexican Quetzal, and translated into colour shades.

Studio Moisés Hernández studied closely the fascinating characteristics of some tropical birds like the Toucan, the Hummingbird and the Mexican Quetzal: the incredibly saturated colours of their feathers inspired the Immersed Birds collection.

The wooden birds series was made in an attempt of generating a balanced dialogue between machine made and handmade objects. The soft and continuous shapes where milled with CNC technology, and then carefully immersed in colored water, in a meticulous study of pigments and shades, to give each bird a unique personality. This technique allows to achieve an interesting texture of intersections and transparencies made by layers of colour that resemble the plumage of birds. The amount of colour, hue and the way sections cross one another depends on the time and position the wood is plunged.
