Nike intends to capture the imaginations of the vast range of innovators set to descend on Milan for the Design Week, describing the event as "an opportunity to play with the creative minds of the city". The company points out that the notion of physical activity will play a key role in the conceptual process, whose ultimate goal is that the final expressions will inspire the communities around them in a new and transformative way.
The company asked designer Odoardo Fioravanti to conceive a project, inspired by Nike design innovation, which can harness the best of the young creative minds in the city in developing a project for the running community. The Flyknit technology allows the upper of a shoe to be created from precisely engineered yarns, virtually eliminating other elements and thus creating one of the lightest, most accurately fitting performance shoes to date. The manufacturing technique also does away with the majority of waste, marking a significant move by Nike towards sustainability.
