10/11/2009, h 14: Reconstruction of Moscow, some mechanisms
One of the grounds for demolition or reconstruction of the buildings from 19th and early 20th centuries in Moscow are wooden bearing structures, beams and girders; although in West Europe frame houses and other edifices with wooden bearing structures are preserved from much older times. There is information that architectural monuments are sometimes destroyed intentionally: Architecture and Construction of Moscow, 2005, Issue 1, p. 14; http://www.asm.rusk.ru/05/asm1/asm1_3.htm (in Russian). Another example: in the house Klimentovski pereulok 6 (completed in 1912) a puddle of benzene, poured out of a moped placed inside the house near the entrance, was found on the floor in the staircase on 2 October 2009; it was noticed by inhabitants, and the fire brigade was called. The back stairs in the same house is obstructed by old furniture and inflammable garbage; no measures are taken by the house management.
