Losing The Plot by Lifestylebazaar

An inspiring exhibition of 'Louis Ghost' chairs reinterpreted by designers, street artists, students and photographers conceived by Lifestylebazaar.
Philippe Starck’s 'Louis Ghost', a pared-down version of the opulent Louis XV-style chair, was revolutionary for its blatant mocking of the bourgeoisie. However, as the chair has become increasingly well-known, sadly it has become synonymous with bland, safe and, ironically, 'bourgeois' interior styling. Lifestylebazaar’s exhibition hopes to challenge this by reinterpreting the chair in new and interesting ways, to distinguish it as a piece of cutting- edge design once again.
Nine 'Louis Ghost' chairs have been customised by individuals from diverse creative disciplines, including: street artist Pure Evil; Tattoo artist and Camberwell college illustration student Martha Smith; taxidermist, jeweller and sculptor extraordinaire Kelly McCallum; cult product and furniture design duo Thelermont Hupton; Valentina Gonzalez Wohlers, who launched her Prickly Pair chairs at this year’s Milan fair; Rupert Blanchard, an art director specialising in conceptual salvage and interiors; quirky product designer Reiko Kaneko; and Laurent Nurisso, co-owner of Lifestylebazaar and an interior designer. The eighth chair will be customised in-store on the theme of 'Marie Antoinette: Let Them Eat Cake'. The chair will be transformed with colourful cakes, sweets and meringues and will be photographed by Rosie Day, a talented photographer studying at Camberwell College. The photograph will form part of the exhibition and the chair itself will be presented during the evening reception for guests to snack on!
The chairs and photograph will be auctioned following the event with all proceeds donated to Children With Aids Charity, also based in Shoreditch.
