Bench B is a system of many elements, materialised in a wooden chair with an extruded technical spine in aluminium. This element can be combined into a longer form, creating a bench that can be extended to up to six metres. "It is a wooden chair that has a classical form with a half round back," states Grcic, who also points out how Bench B references Mies van der Rohe's famous Barcelona chair. "It can be for indoor or outdoor, it can have arms or not, it can be upholstered or left pure aluminium," continues Grcic. "I think we have created a kit of parts which can be turned to very different typologies or uses of this bench."
This collaboration with BD Barcelona Design comes after the 2009 Table B, which Grcic designed to evoke an aeroplane wing. "When you see the table in the largest dimensions, up to almost 6 metres in length, it is something that the eye with the brain doesn't understand how it can work."
