Archivo emerged in 2012 as a space for revising, collecting, promoting, exhibiting and broadcasting design in its many outlets. It sets out to establish itself as a precedent and referent when working with different curatorial and exhibition frames, contests, colloquiums, and other activities that can ignite a critical exchange between design and architecture — always underlying its relationship with a broader public. Accordingly, with the aid and guidance of Domus, Archivo launches its first international competition.
Located immediately beside the iconic Casa Estudio Luis Barragán, Archivo forms part of a new cultural circuit that is rooted in local history. Taking into consideration the historical qualities of the site and context, the Archivo Pavilion must be able to host two specific audiences: the design and local community. Upon committing to build and install the winning proposal, Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura seeks to establish a dialogue between the design community and the visitors to neighboring institutions such as LABOR Galería de Arte Contemporáneo and Casa Estudio Luis Barragán.
The Archivo Pavilion initiative is a direct response to the lack of public community spaces in the neighborhood. The project's main goal is to counteract this condition through an open temporary structure and its architectural and design program.

6. About Archivo
1. Objectives
Through the commission of a functional pavilion, Archivo seeks to activate its facilities with the aim of increasing the public usage of both site and context. With an approximate duration of one year, the Archivo Pavilion installation aims to strengthen the relationship with its audience and the local community at large by addressing the lack of communal space.
The ambition is to create a functional pavilion that can host approximately thirty people; where through its suggested design program, it can transform the building's activities.
2. Jury
The jury will select a proposal to be developed and built in the gardens of Archivo. Aside from receiving a monetary incentive of 5,000 USD, the winning proposal will be published in Domus, Domus México, and Domusweb.it. Upon the jury's criteria, a selection of honorable mentions will also be published in Domusweb.it. The international jury

6. About Archivo
Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura recently linked itself into the history of a historical block, adding a new layer to Francisco Ramírez street in Mexico City. Amid a working class neighborhood, the street offers a thorough glance of modernist Mexican architecture in just one block. Located next to iconic modernist buildings such as Casa Ortega, with its fabulous three thousand square meters of Barragan gardens, and the actual Casa Estudio Luis Barragán, Archivo offers its visitors an opportunity to appreciate examples of one of the most interesting episodes of cultural development in Mexico.
Luis Barragán designed Casa Ortega in 1945, and in 1947 he sold the land where Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura is currently located to build his own house. Therefore, Archivo's garden is without a doubt spectacular, since it follows on the original gardens designed by architect Luis Barragán. Hence, it is essential not to contradict the essence of the space.
Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura is located in a new cultural conclave that has been forming itself for several years. The corridor formed by the San Miguel Chapultepec and Tacubaya boroughs is characterized for being a thriving cultural hub in Mexico City.
NOTE
It is of the utmost importance that the proposals do not top the height of the adjacent walls (south and west) in order not to visually interfere with the gardens of Casa Ortega and Casa Estudio Luis Barragán (Francisco Ramírez no. 20, 14 and 12). The National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) will safeguard that these requirements are kept, as Casa Estudio Luis Barragán is a cultural heritage site and located immediately next to Archivo.
