Jikka Huts

Issei Suma designed a restaurant at the top of the mountain ridge in Japan as a primitive hut, using completely unembellished wooden and concrete interiors.

The site is located at the top of the mountain ridge, which to top has been cut off and flatted by the previous owner. The newly-built interpret, rebuilds and recalls the original mountain ridge by giving each hut different heights.

It is a final abode for the clients – two ladies in their 60’s, social worker and a cook – where they will give and serve the community until the end of their remaining lives. Spaces are completely unembellished as a primitive hut and feature concrete walls, floors and table.

The restaurant is open to the public, using selected local ingredients only. It also delivers meals to elderly people in the local community.
