Art Unlimited has run as part of Art Basel for ten years
now. Launched as an experiment for exhibiting large-scale
works and video installations in 2000, over time Art
Unlimited has been open to all media and tecniques.
In 2009 Art Unlimited continues to play its strengths with
some captivating new projects; projects that require
extremely meticulous presentation, like the work
presented by Belgian artist Hans Op de Beeck Location
(6), a monumental sculptural installation, based on
the historic panorama contructions created particularly
over the past two centuries in Europe. Traditional
panoramas (or dioramas, in the modern sense) combine a
three-dimentional foreground with a painted background.
Location (6), however, is made up entirely of a
sculpted trompe l'oeil landscape, replete with fog and
white light, a vast snowy landscape of barren trees from
central observatory, reached via a long, narrow corridor.
