A house once used as a tailor’s shop in the centre of Palermo has been transformed into an open and bright flat. The new architectural additions to Casa Maz designed by La Leta Architettura stand out for their clear, almost severe lines, and dialogue the pre-existing historical features such as the floor made of majolica and coloured grit, which has been preserved, and the ceilings characterised by pavilion vaults. The demolition of the walls has allowed the flat to return to its original state, ensuring an orderly sequence of rooms. A piece of furniture, on one side storage and a peninsula kitchen on the other, is designed to divide the living area and the kitchen while allowing the spaces to be linked visually. A passage room serves as a vestibule to the bedrooms and houses a wardrobe with mirrored doors on both sides. The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom with a bathtub and handcrafted floor.
Casa Maz in Palermo, from tailor’s shop to apartment
La Leta Architettura renovates a historic house by combining existing floors and ceilings with clean, clear-cut volumes.
