Flos WireLine. Enlightened design

The lamp designed by Formafantasma is a visual combination of industrial look and artistic expression. Conceived as a domestic lighting solution, but above all for public spaces and the contract sector.

Can a design project bring together minimalism and visual impact, simplicity and advanced technology? Judging by WireLine, the light designed by Formafantasma for Flos, the answer could be yes.
A visual combination of industrial design and artistic expression, WireLine is basically a power cord and a long glass cylinder. The cable has been flattened to resemble a rubber belt hanging from the ceiling and forms the support for an extruded super-transparent and fluted borosilicate glass tube that hangs almost like the seat of a swing, and which in turn houses the LED light source and adds an almost art deco touch. The light produced is warm and diffused.

WireLine has been designed to also be used alone, but it really come into its own when employed in multiple units

The cord for WireLine is made of coloured thermoplastic rubber, a polymer blend that guarantees the consistency required to maintain an harmonious and sculptural form

WireLine is now available as a domestic lighting solution, but above all for public spaces and the contract sector. One of the features of the light is its modular nature; it can be used as a single piece, but really comes into its own when employed in multiple units, in variable combinations according to context, creating striking compositions. Designed for particularly high ceilings, it is ideal for hotel lobbies, corporate and institutional executive lounges, lofts and open spaces.
WireLine has also been designed with temporary set-ups in mind and can in fact be mounted and removed with extreme simplicity, occupying minimal space when stored.
It represents a form of minimalism that is more material that conceptual and draws on one of the most important innovations in the field of design in recent years: LED.
The project demonstrates extreme attention to the choice of materials even in terms of the components; the thermoplastic rubber that houses the cable is made up of a blend of polymers that allow for sinuous lines while maintaining a certain sculptural solidity, while the electronics are inserted in satin stainless-steel elements characterised by a CNC-machined diamond surface that provides for improved functionality. The light fitting is completed with two rosettes, one of which contains the power supply and dimmer and connects to the mains electricity output.
Available in pink or forest green finishes, WireLine is adjustable in length according to ceiling height, from a minimum of two metres to a maximum of four.
